THE STORY

Today, guests arriving at Baia del Silenzio enjoy maximum comfort in a resort nestled in lush greenery. From the very first glance, it feels modern and refined, while staying true to its eco-sustainable philosophy.

What many don’t know is that behind this four-star resort lies a long and fascinating story.

THE 1970s AND A LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

Back in 1971, without ever altering the authentic eco-friendly spirit of the Cilento, Pier Luigi Della Valle created a sustainable campsite from scratch, inspired by his deep and genuine love for Mother Nature.

He built real tucul huts using straw and roofs covered with local grass, while the walls were made from reeds gathered in the wetlands of the Veneto region.

THE FIRST GUESTS ARRIVE

With patience, determination and great personal sacrifice, the original structure was initially opened only to friends.
The following year – in 1972 – true commercial activity officially began.

Thousands of guests soon arrived, many of them adventurous travelers from abroad, drawn by the spirit of freedom and nature that already defined Baia del Silenzio.

THE 1980s AND THE FIRST TRANSFORMATIONS

In 1988, the village underwent its first major renovations and changes.
“The Tucul,” Mr Della Valle recalls, “were dismantled and replaced by masonry bungalows.
Facilities became private, offering guests a higher level of comfort.”

A NEW MILLENNIUM, A NEW EVOLUTION

“The biggest changes arrived together with… the euro,” Mr Della Valle continues.
“In 2001, services and comforts increased significantly. We created a disco for young guests, a theatre for adults, and a swimming pool for children. A shuttle service running all day long.
And then: entertainment with real street performers, a floating platform on the sea, and a fully equipped beach service with lifeguards and water sports facilities.”

A ONE-OF-A-KIND 4-STAR RESORT

“Year after year, we became what we are today: a 4-star resort with a stunning sea-view swimming pool.
It’s so panoramic,” Mr Pier Luigi smiles, “that it almost feels as if you could dive straight into the sea from there.”

CILENTO NATIONAL PARK

The Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognised for its exceptional quality of life, the deep balance between humankind and the natural environment, and its ability to preserve centuries-old traditions.

Covering more than 180,000 hectares, it is the second largest national park in Italy and part of the prestigious UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) network of Biosphere Reserves.

This extraordinary territory is home to hundreds of animal species – including the rare Eurasian otter – and an incredible variety of natural landscapes. From Aleppo pines and ancient olive groves to chestnut woods and beech forests; from the dolomitic massifs of the Alburni and Mount Cervati to dramatic coastal cliffs shaped by flysch formations; from spectacular marine caves to underground rivers and karst caves fed by natural springs.

The Cilento is a land rich in hidden treasures. Its archaeological sites, such as Paestum and Velia, bear witness to ancient civilisations, while traces of Neolithic settlements tell the story of a land that has welcomed humankind since the dawn of time.
